About Texas Trade Market
Texas Trade Market connects customers with independent contractors in the Houston area. We review contractor documentation before listing, but we recommend taking additional steps to ensure you're comfortable before hiring.
For Customers
Homeowners, renters, landlords, and business owners
Before Hiring
Verify credentials independently. While we verify basic information, you should confirm license status directly with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) or relevant licensing board.
Request proof of current insurance. Ask for a Certificate of Insurance (COI) and verify it is valid before work begins.
Check references. Ask contractors for references from recent projects and follow up with those customers.
Get everything in writing. Obtain a detailed written contract that includes scope of work, materials, timeline, payment schedule, and warranty terms.
Understand the scope. Make sure you clearly understand what work will be performed and what is not included.
During the Project
Never pay the full amount upfront. A reasonable deposit is typically 10-30%.
Document everything with photos before, during, and after work.
Keep all receipts and written communications.
Address concerns immediately and in writing.
Payment Safety
Avoid cash payments when possible. Use traceable payment methods.
Never pay for work that hasn't been completed.
Be cautious of contractors who pressure you for large upfront payments.
Keep detailed records of all payments made.
